Client

VCS - Den Haag is a local football club with a deep-rooted history and a strong commitment to both performance and community engagement. The club provides opportunities for players of all ages to develop their skills while fostering teamwork and sportsmanship. With a welcoming atmosphere, VCS plays an important role in the local sports culture of The Hague. I was asked to create a completely new design for the VCS website, in collaboration with the Municipality of The Hague. The goal was to modernize the online presence of VCS, making it more accessible and engaging for current and potential members. One of the key motivations behind this project was the municipality’s initiative to encourage more young people to participate in sports. Through this redesign, I aimed to create a platform that inspires and informs, making it easier for the community to get involved with the club.

My Part

For this project, I was responsible for conducting thorough research to understand the needs of the VCS - Den Haag community and identify key features for the website. I focused on user experience (UX) design, ensuring the website was intuitive, visually appealing, and user-friendly across all devices. In addition to the design work, I was involved in the development phase, coding the website using HTML, JavaScript, and CSS. This was actually the first time I fully coded a website, which gave me invaluable hands-on experience in front-end development and allowed me to bring the design to life with seamless functionality.

The Journey of Design

The Journey of Design

For the VCS - The Hague website, I started with an in-depth exploration of the current site and other local football clubs. What worked well? What could be improved? This initial research provided valuable insights into user needs and areas for enhancement. Next, I created multiple low-fidelity wireframes to explore different layouts and functionalities. Through scenario testing, I assessed how users navigated the site and identified any challenges they faced. Based on these tests, I refined the structure and interactions to ensure a more intuitive and user-friendly experience. Throughout the design process, I made deliberate choices: which elements should remain, and what needed to be reimagined? My goal was not only to enhance the website but also to give it a fresh, modern look that aligns with the identity of VCS.

Matching Style

Matching Style

I aimed to give the club a fresh and modern look while maintaining its identity. The existing design felt outdated, so I focused on refining the visual style to create a more engaging and professional appearance. I started by carefully selecting new colours that reflected the energy and spirit of VCS while ensuring accessibility and readability. The layout was redesigned to feel more dynamic and structured, improving the overall user experience. Key elements were modernised, from typography choices to interactive components, creating a cohesive and visually appealing design. By blending research, creativity, and usability, I transformed the VCS website into a platform that not only looks great but also improves user engagement.

For the VCS - The Hague website, every design decision was carefully considered to create a fresh, engaging, and accessible platform for the club. After thorough research, wireframing, and scenario testing, I moved on to the high-fidelity wireframes to refine the final look and feel of the site. The design features a balanced colour scheme of blue and green, with yellow accents highlighting key actions. A bold sans-serif typeface for headings ensures clarity, while a readable serif font in the body text improves focus, especially in important areas like the registration form. Carefully selected images enhance the welcoming and dynamic atmosphere of the club. The final design successfully combines aesthetics with functionality. The layout is structured yet inviting, making it easy for users to navigate and find essential information. The use of clear call-to-action elements ensures a smooth user journey, whether visitors want to check match schedules, sign up for the club, or find contact details. Every element has been designed with accessibility in mind, ensuring that the website is user-friendly for a broad audience. Beyond the design, I took full control of the development process, coding the entire website from scratch using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. This allowed me to translate the design seamlessly into a fully functional, responsive platform that performs well across different devices. The combination of clean, efficient code and thoughtful design ensures that the website is not only visually appealing but also fast, accessible, and easy to maintain. Most importantly, the new design captures the essence of VCS – a club built on community, passion, and inclusivity. The website reflects these values by providing an open and welcoming digital space, reinforcing the sense of loyalty and togetherness that defines the club. Seeing this project come to life has been incredibly rewarding, and I am proud of how the redesign truly represents the heart of VCS.
