Travexplore is an app that helps travelers discover unique destinations by utilizing various phone sensors, such as GPS and motion sensors.

Client

TravExplore was developed for travelers who want a smooth and stress-free vacation experience. The goal was to create a mobile solution that helps vacationers plan activities based on their location, preferences, and real-time conditions. One of the key challenges we aimed to solve was dealing with unexpected changes—such as bad weather—by offering alternative activities. A core requirement was to keep the layout simple and user-friendly, while also making use of various smartphone sensors such as GPS, accelerometer, and weather data.

My Part

TravExplore is a smart activity planner that helps users get the most out of their vacation. Based on their location and environment, users receive personalized activity suggestions. The app adapts to changing circumstances, offering alternative plans if, for example, the weather turns bad. The project was spread across 10 weeks. My Role Weeks 1–6: Group phase During this phase, I worked with a team of designers to conduct user research and explore how we could integrate phone sensors meaningfully into the app. My focus areas included identifying common problems vacationers face, developing a modern visual style, designing a new logo, and helping set the acceptance criteria. Weeks 7–10: Individual prototype development In the final phase, I independently designed the full prototype in Figma. I focused on creating a smooth and intuitive user flow that aligned with the needs discovered during our research. The design went through multiple test iterations and was refined into a fully developed high-fidelity prototype.

The Journey of Design

The Journey of Design

The design process began with thorough research into the target audience: individuals in their early to mid-30s who have not yet started a family and enjoy active holidays. This phase took a significant amount of time and included user research, exploration of smartphone sensors, and the creation of a new visual style. One of the main challenges was aligning the group on a shared design direction. Transforming the user needs into clear acceptance criteria and integrating them into a functional app required careful consideration and collaboration.

Matching Style

Matching Style

Developing a consistent visual style came with several challenges. We dealt with a wide range of opinions within the group, making it difficult to settle on a unified design approach. Our aim was to represent the target audience as accurately as possible through the visuals. One of the key tasks was designing a timeless logo that could be applied across different formats and platforms while maintaining a strong identity.

The final product brings together all the essential needs and expectations of the target audience. From the ability to easily access weather updates and transport options, to filtering activities and viewing price information every feature was designed with user convenience in mind. We remained consistent with the visual style we established as a group, which gave the app a clear and recognisable identity. I conducted multiple usability tests with people from the target audience, focusing on the clarity of the interface, the effectiveness of the filtering system, and overall ease of use. Based on the feedback, I made several iterations to improve both functionality and visual clarity. One of the biggest challenges I faced was balancing creativity with group consensus ensuring the app felt modern and engaging, while still being functional and accessible. Designing independently after the group phase also pushed me to make confident decisions and translate our shared vision into a fully clickable high-fidelity prototype. I’m extremely proud of the end result. TravExplore is not only visually appealing, but also smart, user-focused, and adaptableexactly what an active traveller needs.
